A Perspective of Life from Shamisen

A Perspective of Life from Shamisen is a chapter of the Haruhi Suzumiya Manga, volume 5.

Book InfoEdit

Shamisen complains to a seemingly sentient dragonfly about how life is difficult for a male calico cat. He especially complains about noisy female humans, whom he regards as fickle.

A pair of children gave him to Yuki Nagato, whom Shamisen believed was "different"; he could sense she was an alien. Nagato played with him for a bit, then abruptly dropped him and told him to play with Haruhi Suzumiya. The previous pair of children overheard Nagato's instructions and believed they were meant for them. Nagato appeared to understand Shamisen's speech, but did not respond.

The dragonfly told Shamisen he was a "Philistine" and should enjoy life more.

The chapter appears to be in anachronic order, taking place before The Sigh of Haruhi Suzumiya (in which Shamisen makes his first appearance and displays his intellect, when Suzumiya first notices him) but in the manga, this chapter appears beforehand. Shamisen appears to recognize Suzumiya. It may also have taken place simultaneously with the Endless Eight manga chapters (based on the setting).
