Mikoto Misumaru (三栖丸ミコト, Misumaru Mikoto) is a character who attended the luxury cruise in The Parallel of Haruhi Suzumiya, at the whim of Haruhi Suzumiya. She quickly befriended Haruhi. She is voiced by Ami Koshimizu, who also voices Taiichirou Ijuuin.

The Parallel of Haruhi Suzumiya[]
Mikoto is introduced in the prologue of The Parallel of Haruhi Suzumiya (Wii) as a lost girl, trying to look for someone aboard the Oberon luxury cruise ship. At the behest of Haruhi Suzumiya, she is lent a spare ticket for the cruise. During the events of the game, it is revealed that both her and Taiichirou Ijuuin are humanoid interfaces. The two appear interested in Haruhi Suzumiya and sometimes act with hostility toward Kyon and Yuki Nagato. During at least one confrontation, she and Ijuuin change their outfits to a purple sci-fi ensemble.
At the end of the game, the SOS Brigade returned to their headquarters, and didn't pay attention to a white hat sitting in the room. After they left, Kyon returned to the room, when Mikoto appeared there. She put on the hat and said her farewells before vanishing (appearing to disintegrate), shortly before Haruhi enters the room.
The Series of Haruhi Suzumiya[]
Mikoto also makes an appearance in The Series of Haruhi Suzumiya, which serves as a prologue to the events of Parallel. She is referred to as a "mysterious girl" and dons a white hat.
Etymology[]
The name Mikoto is written in katakana (ミコト), which has no special meaning. However, when written in kanji (美琴, 未琴, 海琴, 三琴, 美言, 実言, 美古都 or 実瑚都), it could possibly mean:
- 美琴 - "beautiful" (美) (mi) and "Japanese harp" (琴) (koto).
- 未琴 - "un-, not yet, hitherto, still, even now, sign of the ram, 1-3PM, eighth sign of Chinese zodiac" (未) (mi) and "Japanese harp" (琴) (koto).
- 海琴 - "sea, ocean" (海) (mi) and "Japanese harp" (琴) (koto).
- 三琴 - "three" (三) (mi) and "Japanese harp" (琴) (koto).
- 美言 - "beautiful" (美) (mi) and "say, words" (言) (koto).
- 実言 - "fruit, good result, truth" (実) (mi) and "say, words" (言) (koto).
- 美古都 - "beautiful" (美) (mi), "old, antiquity, ancient time, used, secondhand" (古) (ko) and "metropolis, capital" (都) (to).
- 実瑚都 - "fruit, good result, truth" (実) (mi), "ancestral offering receptacle, coral" (瑚) (ko) and "metropolis, capital" (都) (to).
Mikoto's surname Misumaru means "three" (三) (mi), "nest, rookery, hive, cobweb, den" (栖) (su) and "round, circle, pills, purity, suffix for ship names, complete" (丸) (maru).
