Summary[]
On Tuesday morning, Haruhi is bored and depressed. Kyon prods her for why she didn't show up to the Monday SOS Brigade meeting; she reveals that in lieu of her threat to go over what Kyon did wrong on Saturday's city search, she reviewed the entire search by herself. Concerned, he suggests she give up searching for the supernatural, get a boyfriend, and convert the SOS Brigade into a conventional club, but she dismisses love as a fleeting mental illness and is determined that only a supernatural occurrence can relieve her boredom. However, Kyon is more concerned about a mysterious letter he found in his shoe locker before class, which directs him to come to classroom 5 after everyone leaves.
At the SOS Brigade meeting, Kyon sees Haruhi uploading the risque maid photos he took of Asahina to the SOS Brigade website. He convinces her to delete the photos instead, explaining the moral issues with posting personal photos or info, but secretly puts the photos in an invisible folder for his own viewing. Haruhi leaves the meeting early in a huff.
Once the meeting ends, Kyon goes to classroom 5, where Ryoko Asakura, the class president, awaits him. Revealed to also be an alien, Asakura attempts to kill Kyon in order to provoke a reaction from Haruhi, but is stopped by Nagato, who is Asakura's superior. Due to Asakura's insubordination, Nagato cuts off her access to physical form and alters data to have Asakura transferred into a different school. This mysteriously abrupt transfer catches Haruhi's attention, dispelling her bad mood.
Kyon gets a note in his shoe locker on Wednesday morning, this one signed by Asahina and asking him to meet her in the clubroom. Given the incident with Asakura, Kyon realizes the foolhardiness of trusting a note, but attraction to Asahina drives him to keep the meeting. He is confronted with an adult woman, Mikuru Asahina from farther in the future. She says he will soon face a grave danger to all the world; at that time, Haruhi will be with him, and he should remember the clue "Snow White".
Investigating Asakura's transfer, Haruhi finds a suspicious lack of information and gets Asakura's old address. She enlists Kyon to join her investigation, dismissing the rest of the SOS Brigade for the day.

During her attack on Kyon, Asakura claims data jurisdiction over the classroom. In her fight with Nagato, both she and Nagato utilize various forms of data manipulation.
The adult Asahina time travels from the future. She accidentally creates a bootstrap paradox by informing Kyon of the star-shaped mole which she in turn learned about from Kyon.

- This episode was broadcast as episode 10 of Season 1, and episode 4 of Season 2.
- The opening theme does not air.
- A couple that is seen early in the episode also appears at the end, breaking up.
- During the confrontation, Asakura says "You love Kyon, don't you?" reversed and sped up in Japanese, while Nagato's response is a SQL query, also sped up and recited backwards. According to the light novel, it is
"SELECT serial code FROM database WHERE code data ORDER BY offensive information combat HAVING terminate mode." - This is the first episode in the chronological order in which a paranormal phenomenon appears.
- In the subtitled version, after Kyon monologues in the scene where Asakura's transfer is announced, Haruhi says to him "What was that?", implying she heard some of his mumbling. In the dubbed version her question is changed to "What's up with you?".
- While Kyon is reflecting on the note he received from the elder Asahina, a smaller student is seen slapping a bully trying to steal his sandwich, prompting the bully to whine "BUT I'M HUNGRY!" This exchange is left untranslated in the subtitled version, but is translated in the dubbed version.
- The beginning scene where Asakura tries to talk to Haruhi, and then talks to Kyon after his conversation with Haruhi, was not part of the original light novel.
