Give Me Your Hand... is the ninth episode of The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan. In contrast to the previous episode, the title of which has nothing to do with its content, "Give Me Your Hand..." uses multiple interpretations of its title: the characters play old maid, a game in which players take turns offering each other their hand of cards; Kyon offers Nagato his hand on the climb up a hill; and Nagato reaches her hand towards the stars, seemingly extending her hand to any extraterrestrials who may be out there.
Plot[]
The Literature Club's training camp (begun in "Wish") continues, as Haruhi rouses everyone to play a late-night game of old maid. Afterwards they head up a hill for stargazing and playing on a dinosaur-themed playground. Ryoko tells Haruhi that the closer Yuki gets to Kyon, the farther she gets from Ryoko, but Haruhi thinks she has nothing to worry about and ridicules her concerns. Kyon and Yuki hold hands as they leave the summit.
The Literature Club returns home after the training camp. While crossing the street in the rain, Yuki is hit by a car.
Trivia[]
- The number of cards in Koizumi's hand during the game of old maid is inconsistent. When he first fans out his hand, he is shown holding 11 cards, even though he should only have 10, since Haruhi was dealing clockwise and he is seated to her immediate right. In the next shot, when the camera shows the faces of his cards, he is now holding 10 cards. They are the 3 of hearts, the 5 of spades, the 4 of hearts, the 4 of diamonds, the ace of diamonds, the 8 of hearts, the 2 of spades, the jack of diamonds, the 2 of diamonds, and the 6 of spades. Even though this hand has only two pairs (the 4s and the 2s), immediately following the initial discard, when he reaches for Haruhi's hand, he is shown holding four cards instead of six.
- Another inconsistency during the game is that among the initial discards are the jacks of hearts and diamonds. Since the jack of diamonds was the only jack in Koizumi's initial hand, it could not possibly be discarded at this point.
- Yet another inconsistency: The 5 of spades appears in both Koizumi and Nagato's initial hands.
