The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan II

The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan I is the eleventh episode of The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan. The episode is considered a clip show under some definitions, since the first seven minutes (slightly less than a third of the total running time) consist almost entirely of stock footage from the previous episode, "Someday in the Rain", with new narration by Nagato.

Plot[]

Responding to Ryoko's question at the end of the previous episode, Yuki says that while she retains all her memories, ever since the car accident she has felt no emotional connection to those memories and no identification with her previous personality, likening the experience to reading someone else's diary. Ryoko finally persuades Yuki to go to a hospital for an examination. The doctor finds no damage to Yuki's brain, but says her described symptoms indicate a form of dysmnesia resulting from the physical trauma of the car accident. Yuki says she does not want to be treated as being unwell and generally wishes to proceed with her life as if her current state were normal. Ryoko respects her wishes and persuades the doctor that a hospital stay is not needed, but she confides to Kyon that she wishes Yuki would go back to being her old self.

Haruhi Suzumiya and Itsuki Koizumi's absences from the Literature Club meetings in this episode and the previous one are belatedly explained as their being busy preparing for the difficult exams at Kouyouen; Tsuruya and Mikuru Asahina's absences are left still unexplained. Kyon and Ryoko do their best to treat Yuki as normal, and Kyon takes advantage of Yuki's new excellence at mathematics to get help studying for exams. Noticing her new interest in reading, he offers to take her to a library, and Yuki accepts.
